Laine Bryce is a woman of varied musical interests and talents. She earned a B.A. in piano performance from the University of Minnesota and is just shy of a master’s degree in music theory. She began serious bassoon study in the mid 1970’s, and became an active free lance bassoonist and contrabassoonist--in Minnesota until 2001, and more recently in the Philadelphia and South Jersey areas.
Laine has published numerous original bassoon quartet arrangements available at lowBflat.com. Working with John Miller, she has made piano reductions and published bassoon concertos and solos. Because of her interest in teaching reed-making, she wrote, illustrated, and published her Bassoon Reed Handbook, which gives the basics of making bassoon reeds.
She has taught class and private music lessons, performed as piano accompanist for advanced students and professionals, and directed bands in a high school. She taught bassoon at four colleges in Minnesota.
Laine has performed with many professional symphony orchestras and in bassoon quartets, and has taught private lessons in St. Paul MN and Moorestown, NJ.
